he Charlotte IceHawks 12U program is designed for young athletes ages 10–13 (grades 5–7) who are ready to develop their hockey skills in a fun, structured, and competitive environment. Our program focuses on building strong fundamentals, including skating, stickhandling, passing, shooting, and basic team systems, while teaching the core values of teamwork, sportsmanship, and on-ice communication.

Players participate in 1–2 skills sessions per month, occasional on-ice team practices, and weekend games to gain real-game experience. We also take part in small local and regional tournaments, giving players the chance to test their skills against other teams, develop confidence, and experience the excitement of competitive play—all in a supportive, age-appropriate setting.

The 12U program emphasizes not just skill development but also leadership, personal growth, and a love for the game. It’s a perfect stepping stone for players moving into the 14U / JV programs, with opportunities to be called up as skills progress. Parents and players can expect a well-organized, professional program that balances development, fun, and exposure to competitive hockey.

The Story

The Charlotte IceHawks 12U program was created to give young hockey players ages 10–13 (grades 5–7) a fun, supportive, and competitive environment where they can grow both on and off the ice. Our mission is simple: to teach the fundamentals of hockey while fostering teamwork, confidence, and a lifelong love of the game.

Every season, our players develop essential skills such as skating, stick handling, passing, and shooting, while learning the basics of team systems and on-ice communication. But beyond the skills, we focus on creating a positive environment where kids can gain confidence, practice sportsmanship, and build friendships that last a lifetime.

Our program includes 1–2 monthly skills sessions, occasional on-ice team practices, and weekend games, plus opportunities to participate in local and regional tournaments. These tournaments are a highlight of the season—players get to experience real competitive play, travel with their teammates, and celebrate successes together, all while learning to handle challenges with resilience and teamwork.

The Charlotte IceHawks 12U program is more than just hockey. It’s about helping kids grow, giving them a platform to explore leadership, and creating memories they’ll carry forever. Many of our 12U players will go on to JV and varsity programs, and we love seeing their growth and progression through the ranks.
