their hockey skills in a structured, competitive, and positive environment. The program focuses on building strong fundamentals—including skating, stickhandling, passing, shooting, hockey IQ, and team systems—while teaching the values of teamwork, sportsmanship, discipline, and communication on and off the ice.
Players participate in monthly skills sessions, team practices, and weekend games that provide valuable live-game experience and continued development throughout the season. The program also competes in select local and regional tournaments, giving players opportunities to challenge themselves against other teams, build confidence, and experience competitive hockey in an age-appropriate setting.
The Middle School Program serves as a developmental pathway into the Icehawks JV and Varsity programs, helping prepare players for higher levels of scholastic hockey within the organization. As players continue to grow and develop, opportunities for advancement and additional exposure may become available.
At its core, the Icehawks Middle School Program is about more than just hockey. We are committed to helping young athletes grow as players, teammates, and leaders while creating an organized, supportive, and enjoyable environment for both players and families. Whether a player is newer to the game or already experienced, the program provides the coaching, structure, and opportunities needed to continue developing and enjoying hockey.
The Story
The Middle School Program was created to give young hockey players in grades 5–7 a fun, supportive, and competitive environment where they can grow both on and off the ice. Our mission is simple: to teach the fundamentals of hockey while fostering teamwork, confidence, leadership, and a lifelong love for the game.
Throughout the season, players develop essential skills such as skating, stickhandling, passing, shooting, and hockey IQ while learning team systems and on-ice communication. Beyond skill development, the program emphasizes sportsmanship, discipline, accountability, and building strong friendships within a positive team culture.
The program includes monthly skills sessions, occasional on-ice team practices, weekend games, and opportunities to compete in local and regional tournaments. These experiences allow players to test their abilities in competitive situations, travel with teammates, build confidence, and learn how to handle both success and adversity as a team.
The Icehawks Middle School Program serves as an important developmental pathway into the organization’s JV and Varsity programs. As players continue to improve, they gain opportunities for advancement and increased exposure within scholastic hockey.
